Psychologists describe personality with five broad traits. Answer 10 quick everyday questions to see which one stands out most in you right now.

How this Big Five quiz works

The Big Five is the personality model most often used in psychology research. It describes people along five broad traits: openness (curiosity and imagination), conscientiousness (organization and follow-through), extraversion (social energy), agreeableness (warmth and cooperation) and a fifth trait about how strongly you feel emotions. Researchers usually call that last one neuroticism; we call it emotional depth, because the old name sounds far harsher than the trait really is.

This quick quiz asks 10 everyday questions about free afternoons, trip planning, movies, work and home. Every question has one answer for each trait, so all five results have exactly the same chance. Your result is the trait that came up most in your choices. It takes about a minute, there’s no sign-up, and your answers are scored right in your browser.

A quick, honest note

This is a fun reflection tool, not a scientific Big Five assessment and not a diagnosis of anything. Proper Big Five questionnaires are much longer and score you on all five traits along a scale, because everyone has some of each. Here, we simply highlight the trait that stood out in your answers today. If you’re curious how reliable online quizzes are in general, our guide to whether personality quizzes are accurate walks through what the research does and doesn’t support.

What to do with your result

Whatever trait you got, there’s no good or bad result. Each one comes with real strengths and a few things to watch, and knowing yours can make everyday choices, teamwork and relationships a little easier.
