How this element quiz works

Astrology groups the 12 zodiac signs into four elements: fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Each element has its own mood. Fire is about energy and action, earth about steadiness and practical skill, air about ideas and connection, and water about feeling and intuition.

This quiz skips your birthday entirely. Instead, it asks 10 everyday questions about canceled plans, stressful days, gifts, vacations and group chats. Every question has one answer for each element, so all four results have exactly the same chance. Your result is the element that showed up most in your choices. It takes about a minute, there’s no sign-up, and your answers are scored in your browser. If two answers both sound right, choose the one that fits a normal week rather than your best or worst day. Each result explains what that element looks like day to day, its strengths, a few things to watch out for and how friends and partners can show they care.
