How this 90s quiz works

This quiz asks 10 quick questions about the little things that made the decade: the sound of a dial-up modem, rewinding a rental tape, butterfly clips, gel pens, mix CDs and the art of the perfect away message. Each answer is scored by how closely it matches classic 90s experiences. Your result is one of four levels: 90s Tourist, Weekend 90s Fan, Certified 90s Kid or Total 90s Legend.

It takes about a minute, there’s no sign-up, and your answers are scored right in your browser. Answer with what you actually did or would do, not what you’ve seen in throwback memes. If you weren’t around for the decade, pick the answer that sounds most like you today.

A quick, honest note

This is a quiz for fun, not a test of your age or your memory. The 90s looked different depending on where you grew up, how old you were and what your family could afford, so plenty of real 90s kids never owned half the things on this list. Every level is a good one. A 90s Tourist who loves the decade’s music is just as welcome here as a Total 90s Legend who still owns a box of slap bracelets.
